We have sourced some lovely dried red Rose petals for helping us when we blend some of our own special scented teas. However, the petals on their own also make a lovely tea or tisane and it is a very healthy drink. Rose petals are rich in natural antioxidants including being high in vitamin C. According to a review published recently, the antioxidant vitamin C can block some damage caused by the exposure to toxins and free radicals. This can help reduce some of the effects of aging. Rose tea has been scientifically shown in trials to be helpful in relieving menstrual cramps. Vitamin C also provides help to your immune system as well as aids in the production of collagen, a protein essential for healthy skin and hair.
Rose petals have long been used in the production of sweets and cakes, although it is best not to be too heavy handed. Steep these petals for two to three minutes at 90oC and you can easily re-infuse.
