This remarkable coffee comes from the West Valley area of Costa Rica. An area famed for its complex microclimates which contribute to the high percentage of Cup of Excellence winners. The family run Volcán Azul farm produces micro-batches of cultivars, such as Caturra, Geisha, Villasarchi, Sarchimor and Venezia. The red or yellow cherries are hand-picked, once they are felt to be perfectly ripe and then either washed, left unwashed (natural) or honey processed (semi-washed) or red honey where the coffee beans are dried in the sun still encased in their fruit pulp. The Volcan Azul plantation this coffee comes from, is between 1500 and 1700 metres above sea level and produces a selected range of speciality beans.
You will receive 90 grams of these roasted beans for £5.00 this will allow you to make between 18 and 36 cups of coffee, depending on cup size. Five grams per cup, the quantity of coffee used will be quite personal so these are guidelines only. This works out at between twenty-seven and thirteen pence per cup. We also sell larger quantities of this coffee at a more ‘economical’ rate, the price per cup will therefore be lower.
