Soba Cha Naturally Grown Baked Buckwheat Tea Caffeine Free Savoury Unusual Drink

Well, I’m not quite sure what to make of this ‘Tea’. I was quite excited to spot it being listed from one of our German suppliers and I’m definitely a sucker for anything new or different. The tea has a sort of sweetish savoury full-bodied taste. Not unpleasant, and definitely with an Umami feel. Umami as I’m sure you are all aware is the category of taste in food (besides sweet, sour. Salt and bitter) that corresponds to the flavour of glutamates, especially monosodium glutamate, not my words but an online description. I think Helen summed it up best when she sampled it for the first time and said, “It’s like gravy Ovaltine”, again not unpleasant just not necessarily what you were expecting. Soba Cha is also known as Buckwheat Tea and comes from the Knotweed family of plants.

It goes without saying that if you're pregnant (or are under the doc for anything) caution should be exercised with herbal decoctions.
