Indian Nilgiri Kalpetta Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe Loose Leaf Black Tea Great Body

£3.50

Kalpetta is a small city and town  in the Indian state of Kerala and is surrounded by dense coffee and tea plantations and the Nilgiri mountains. The vast majority of tea production is undertaken by small growers, who typically own less than one hectare. These growers generally sell their tea as green leaf to ‘Bought Leaf Factories’. After processing the green leaves are converted into ‘Made Tea’, which is then sold though the auctions in Coonoor, Coimbatore and Kochi. 70% is exported often to be blended. This GFOP is a high-quality grade of black tea and is grown 1400m above sea level on the eastern slopes of the Nilgiri hills. The area was famous for gold mining and is now an area of natural beauty and nature reserves. This Kalpetta tea has been included in our range to replace our Coonoor FOP, which unfortunately is currently unavailable.
