This Tea Estate named after the Balasun river and is flanked to the North by the Moondakotee Estate, the Margaret’s Hope Estate to the East, Nagri Farm in the west, and Ambootia Tea Garden to the south. This Darjeeling Tea Estate was established in 1874, and has Fair Trade certification, UTZ certification, and Rainforest Alliance certification. They grow 51% ‘Sinensis’, 40% hybrid ‘Assamica’, and 9% Darjeeling Clonal varieties. They also grow Oranges, Ginger, Cardamom and Broom Grass. The garden sits at an altitude of between 365m to 1375m and has a temperature range of 7oC in the winter to 30oC in the summer. This First Flush tea is picked between the end of March and the beginning of May, depending on the prevailing weather conditions. I am quite a lover of Darjeeling teas, but they do vary considerably, this is one of the best, I brewed at 90oC for two and a half minutes, delightful and refreshing.
