Java Sunda Purwa Pekoe Souchong Loose Leaf Healthy Green Tea Rare And Great Value

£2.50

Pekoe Souchong, this is an unusual plucking with leaves that are shorter and slightly courser than Pekoe. The leaves usually have a twisted look to them and are plucked from the early part of the growing season till the end of the growing season.

In India a system of grading the leaves by naming them has evolved, this usually applies only to black teas but in this instance, the grading system has moved across to Java and is being used with their green leaves. A Pekoe leaf is the third leaf from the tip and a Souchong leaf is the fourth leaf from the tip, the first and second leaves being known as Flowery Orange Pekoe and Orange Pekoe respectively, the fifth leaf is called a Congou.

Java is better known for its Black Teas but they do produce some rather super Green Teas as well. Originally, Green Tea production was centred around the city of Bandung; the Sunda Purwa is harvested and produced virtually all the year round. It offers fantastic value for money and has a great depth of flavour as well as being able to be infused a couple of times. You don’t need a lot and it brews fairly quickly.
