Colombia is the second largest producer of coffee in the world and the largest producer of washed Arabica beans. Colombia only produces washed Arabica approximately 12.5 million bags. Excelso is a grading term for exported coffee from Colombia. They are large, screen 15 – 16 compared to Supremo which are larger at screen 17. Colombian coffee is graded before shipping and both Supremo and Excelso can originate from the same trees. Excelso accounts for the greatest volume exported, although 2 million bags are consumed annually within Colombia. Popayan coffee accounts for 4% of the annual total production. This is a great, inexpensive, almost cheap coffee but is still a great cup and Fair Trade. I like Colombian coffee and I particularly liked this one. A nice dark roast to bring out the flavour. A good everyday coffee.
