One of the wonderful perks of belonging to the ‘lesser band’ of coffee roasters is being invited to a ‘cupping’ by this plantation’s owner at St James’s Club in London.
The plantation is found in the district of Cerrado Minas Gerais. The beans are screen 16–18, semi-washed, Arabica and are medium dark roasted for added flavour.
The plantation owner’s daughter is keen to carry on the family tradition using the most high-tech gadgetry available, including ‘sat-nav’ to identify where each sack of beans came from within the plantation, so exact it will pinpoint the trees! At the same time, the whole plantation is ‘Rainforest Alliance’ dedicated to the conservation of tropical forests.
