Africa is the homeland for coffee, it occured wild in the south-western highlands of Ethiopia and was first grown commercially as a as a crop in the highlands of Yemen.
The scientific name Coffea arabica refers to the 'Coffee shrub of Arabia', and was first written about in the middle of the 15th century, in the Sufi monasteries around Port Mocha in Yemen.
Kenya coffee is probably the best known but try all as they all have slightly different characteristics. I especially like those grown on or around Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
Ethiopia is the 5th largest world coffee producer and the biggest in Africa. Uganda is Africa's second biggest producer with virtually all being sold as green bean.
