Sumatran Ketiara Co-operative Fair Trade Arabica Whole Coffee Beans

£2.50

The Ketiara Co-operative is a Women’s run collective formed by 1000 members, of which 90% are women. It was founded in 2008 and has been Fair Trade since 2012. The coffee is grown sustainably, without the use of artificial fertilisers or pesticides. The members of the Ketiara Co-operative are proudly responsible for the whole of the entire production chain. They obviously grow the coffee, harvest the coffee, prepare the coffee, and export the coffee all ‘in house’. They have a strong focus on women’s empowerment, education, land ownership, and sustainability. The chairwomen. Ms Rahmah, has helped establish a stable market for the members, often yielding three times the average price in an otherwise volatile, male dominated market. The members grow Bourbon, Typica, Caturra, and Catimor cultivars, at an altitude of between 1,200 and 1,500 meters above sea level, in the Aceh Tengah region of Sumatra, Indonesia. The beans are semi-washed (or wet hulled). A lovely coffee.
