We have chosen another Organic Fair Trade Peruvian coffee which we have dark roasted to contrast with our incredibly popular medium roast Café Femenino. This is a wonderfully full-bodied brew with a great aroma. Peru is the third largest county in South America and has the Andean range running the length of it. Virtually all Peruvian coffee is grown in this mountainous range at elevations between 1,000 and 1,800 meters. Peru is one of the largest growers of Organic coffee in the world and the dominant crop is Arabica, mostly Typica, 70%, and Caturra at 20%. Â The coffee harvest begins in June and carries on until October. The cherries are hand-picked, and grown on small plantations, such as Martin Saucedo Fernandez's plantation, these small plantations work as a co-operative and help fund development of schools, hospitals and roadways. Under this practice, the marketing, funding and international sales are carried out by a central office with direct accessibility to the markets, thereby benefitting all the members in the co-operative.
You will receive 90 grams of these roasted beans for £5.00 this will allow you to make between 18 and 36 cups of coffee, depending on cup size. Five grams per cup, the quantity of coffee used will be quite personal so these are guidelines only. This works out at between twenty-seven pence and thirteen pence per cup. We also sell larger quantities of this coffee at a more economical rate, the price per cup will therefore be lower.
