This stunning Bi Luo Chun from Yunnan has been scented with fresh Magnolia yunnanensis petals. Bi Luo Chun is a large leaf tea and Chinese author, Zhen Jun (1857 to 1918), of the famous tea encyclopaedia Cha Shuo, ranked it first among Chinese green teas. The name Bi Luo Chun literally translates as Green Snail Spring, for the obvious reason of the resemblance to a snail and it plucked early in the Spring. Also known as Pi Lo Chun, it’s renowned for its delicate fruity taste and floral aroma, the addition of the regional Magnolia flowers only enhances the whole experience. The Yunnan-Guizhou plateau is perfect for Organic cultivation as the area has no industry, no pollution, fertile soil and is found at an altitude of over 1000 metres. I was so enamoured by the unfurling of the small snails as my tea steeped that I left it longer than my normal 2 minutes and it was still a spectacular drink. Absolutely spectacular.
