Seeyok, or as it used to be known, Spring Valley Tea Garden, is located 60 km from Darjeeling, in the beautiful Mirik Valley near the Nagri Estate, in West Bengal. Found between 1100 and 1800 meters the plantation is 154 hectares. Originally established in 1869 and becoming Organic in 1980, the Garden has become Fair Trade. This has brought a premium to a communal pot, contributing an ambulance, low interest loans for purchasing cows, schoolbooks, scholarships, cooking gas (saving trees) mosquito nets and sewing machines. There are 87 Estates in the Darjeeling Hills, that have been accorded the right to label its tea as ‘Darjeeling Tea’ by the tea Board of India. They produce over 9 million Kg of tea and engage 50% of the local population in work. I brewed for 2 minutes at 90oC and found it perfect, fresh and grassy, no bitterness almost slightly citrusy a definite winner.
You will receive 20 grams of this tea for £5.00 this will allow you to make between 10 cups and 20 cups of tea.
