What a strange year, to put it mildly, normal 1st Flush Darjeeling teas are picked end of February beginning of March depending on the weather but 2020’s pandemic put a stop to that. The only Darjeeling teas plucked this year were those selected for extra early picking to be flown out before the main 1st early crop is produced. Luckily, our Bannockburn was picked and crated up and in Calcutta when the pandemic closed everything down. So, although we had to wait 3 months longer for it than anticipated at least we were able to get a 1st Flush, and what a lovely one it is. Bannockburn Garden, taking its name from the historic Scottish battle has been in existence since 1857 and organic since 2008. It is Northeast of Darjeeling City at an altitude of 1710 metres. 6% of plants are clonal and 94% Chinese. A perfect Darjeeling composition. This tea has plenty of fresh, fruity notes and a pleasant astringency.
